Your business has reached a stage where technology is no longer “just support”—it’s a core driver of efficiency, scalability, and competitive advantage. But building a full-time CTO role is costly, premature, and often misaligned with the needs of a 10–100 employee organization. This proposal outlines a fractional CTO engagement designed to give you senior-level technical leadership, strategic clarity, and operational modernization—at a fraction of the cost of hiring in-house.
As your fractional CTO, I provide the strategic oversight your business currently lacks: a clear technology roadmap, architecture guidance, security and compliance direction, vendor and tool evaluation, and leadership for internal and external technical resources. My role is to ensure your systems, processes, and data support your growth instead of slowing it down.
I’ve seen this first-hand in most small businesses. Their internal IT staff or their MSP might do a great job at installing PC’s, cleaning viruses (which arguably should have never made it to the PC in the first place), and, if you’re lucky, you get a QBR (Quarterly Business Review) or TBR (Technical Business Review).
BUT… How many IT leaders know what assets are deployed in their organization? Not just PC’s, but the printers, networking devices, mobile devices, etc. Knowing your asset list is accurate is the beginning to knowing where your data lives. If you don’t know where your data is, you can’t protect it, that’s why asset management is the first stop on most Cyber Security Frameworks like HIPAA, CIS and CMMC.
In fact, I’d argue most small businesses can’t provide:
- An accurate asset list
- An accurate identity list (across all your applications)
- An accurate list of applications (core business, ancillary business and IT)
- An accurate list of IT contracts, with their value, licenses, performance requirements, and renewal dates.
- And, most importantly, correlating this lists to ensure complete coverage.
- A roadmap of where your business and business technology is headed
- Preparing for emerging technologies (Think AI strategy)
More and cyber insurance policies are being denied due to inaccurate applications.(Travelers v. ICS underscores need to respond carefully to cyber insurance application questions | Lockton). Imagine being able to complete your insurance application with confidence that you can produce the evidence to support your claims. We can do that!
The Fractional CTO engagement focuses on three core outcomes:
- Stability: Reduce risk, eliminate technical bottlenecks, and ensure your systems are reliable and secure.
- Efficiency: Modernize workflows, automate manual processes, and streamline operations to save time and reduce costs.
- Scalability: Build a technical foundation that supports future growth, hiring, expansion, and increased customer demand.
You gain a strategic technology partner who operates at the executive level—without the overhead of a full-time CTO. This proposal includes a tiered service structure so you can choose the level of engagement that aligns with your current needs and budget, while ensuring you have the leadership required to move confidently into your next stage of growth.
